How to Close the Gap Between What You Say You Want and How You Actually Live
By Soul Clarity Studio · Created by a paramedic · 12 September 2026
You close the gap between your intentions and how you live by turning each intention into one small, specific action and checking in on it daily. The gap usually comes from vague goals and no follow-through, not a lack of motivation. Short daily reflection shows where you drift and what to adjust.
You value your health, but the week got away from you. You value being present, but the phone won. It's rarely dishonesty — it's usually just how automatic behaviour works when nothing interrupts it.
Why the gap exists in the first place
Values live in the abstract — they're easy to state and easy to believe. Daily choices happen under pressure, tiredness, and the pull of whatever's easiest in the moment. Without something that regularly checks one against the other, the gap simply doesn't get noticed. It's not a character flaw. It's the default state of anyone who isn't deliberately comparing intention to behaviour.
Seeing the gap honestly
The useful version of this isn't vague guilt — it's specific comparison. Not "I should be healthier," but "I said health mattered, and this week I chose the couch four times when I had a real alternative." Specific comparisons can actually be acted on. Vague ones just produce more vague guilt.
Closing it is a practice, not a realization
Seeing the gap clearly, even once, doesn't close it — that takes repetition. Each time you choose the harder, more congruent option instead of the easier, misaligned one, the gap narrows a little. Each time you don't, it's worth noticing without spiralling into self-criticism, and trying again the next day. This is why alignment is a structured practice rather than a single insight.
This is exactly the work Volume 2: Alignment is built around — four weeks moving through execution, honesty, reality and commitment, using daily reflection to keep the gap visible long enough to actually close it.
